We are in desperate need of reasonably priced homes in the Cowichan Valley. Its nearly impossible to attract new employees to our business because they are unable to secure a place to live.
Listening to your community is and should be the top of your list. Community is what builds heart and strength. Especially during this time of voices not being heard.
It’s long past time this council took action to address the current housing crisis and updated our antiquated and outdated zoning bylaws to include more smaller affordable housing options and secondary suites. This plan for the Bell McKinnon LAP should be well left alone. Councillor Marsh has effectively opposed any solutions to the housing crisis […]
Why are we wasting time and money starting over when we already have an award winning plan? I would like to hear a logical direct and short explanation of why NC is even wasting time revisiting this plan. We are experiencing a housing crisis and we need houses to bring in the people we will […]
This plan was reviewed and won rewards. It is a waste of tax payers money to be reviewed again. We require more affordable housing as not everyone wants to live in apartments. They want to be able to have a home to raise their families.
Based on a cookie cutter approach focused on urban related issues. Totally misses the boat for issues relevant to a community like North Cowichan, and has insufficient work in terms of economic growth and sustainability. Motherhood statements all the way.
Attainable housing choices are required in the Cowichan Valley. This area plan helps to achieve this and is forward thinking. This helps build a community close to services such as a hospital and Municipal Hall. All of which are only accessible by car. I think this area would be an ideal location for a civic […]
We oppose this OCP because the lack of public input. The original OCP needs to be tweaked not overhauled. MNC needs to be staffed up to take care of the Housing needs so there is no bottle necks. We need more open land not less.
The template used for the North Cowichan OCP has always been in question as far as I am concerned. The model is setup to apply in urban areas such as Burnaby and not the semi rural communities like North Cowichan. The current draft takes us backwards with no vision for the future considering the growth […]
Where is the justification for arbitrarily deciding that this award-winning development plan should be changed or thrown out? It has already been passed and approved, yet a select few have deemed this not to be a viable option, and want it changed. Based on that fact alone, it would appear that those councillors are acting […]
We need to stop undoing great work done in the not too distant past. We are sending the wrong message, one that shows our local Governments cannot be trusted and will regularly go back on its word and decisions.
I work with a lot of client struggling to find homes in the Cowichan Valley as well as people that live in that area currently that are looking forward to the plans.
Plans have been made in millions have been spent on solving housing crisis. The plan is a good one. A great one actually. Stick to the plan. stop changing the past. And move forward for the benefit of all.
I am opposed to many of the sweeping changes this council is proposing for North Cowichan as well as those mentioned here. You have a large, diverse group of people whose needs are being ignored as you push your personal agendas through.
I thought scenario 2 passed last coucil meeeting , what is going on . Leave it alone already ! We are a growing City we need housing and infrastructure .
Enough time and money have been spent on this over the years. It is an award winning plan. What makes this council think the next council wont come in and burn their new plan when they don’t agree with it. Start spending money on infrastructure.
I live in Cowichan Bay but own land in North Cowichan. An OCP is a document that developers and land owners rely upon for investing and planning. It is not in the community’s best interests to do a different one now and may stink of opportunism or political favouritism to do so.
It is time for North Cowichan to help fix the housing shortage and let the well-planned LAP development go ahead as the taxpayers have already previously approved.
All my life 56 years, I have had enough with council changing there mind. We have wasted enough of our tax dollars on this. Council needs to understand that urban sprawl is something they cannot control if it’s not in North cowichan it will be in the cvrd. So be smart and collect the tax. […]
Love this plan! It went through the public consultation process and was well researched and funded with taxpayer dollars. This is exactly what our community needs more of… Multi use areas, with live and work options for a younger demographic. Our community needs housing and jobs. This is a responsible plan but would love to […]
Please support the people of North Cowichan; support Families, Jobs, and New Housing with responsible development. Support the people of our community and the North Cowichan’s experienced and talented planners, administrators and professionals in continuing with a well developed and diverse OCP for our community. The existing OCP allowed for choice of lifestyle, improved services, […]
We oppose the new OCP and think that the public portion of this needs to actually be public and not through zoom meetings. This is being rammed through while we are in the middle of a housing crisis.
I personally do not benefit from added density in the BM corridor as I am on the south side of Norcross rd. and if anything the increased density will negatively affect my property value; however, I understand the need for growth and housing units in the community. I 100% agree that the original LAP should […]
This plan is a forward thinking document that will bring a vibrant walkable community to the Cowichan Valley, something this sorely lacking at the current time. As a Bell McKinnon resident I am firmly in favour of this plan.
This so upsetting Come on we need this And a bypass We need to keep up with growth You can’t stop it Your just delaying progress at a higher cost in the future act and ever individual benefits
The entire local are plan was created to provide primary ancillary support to the new hospital. The core village has been deleted and the inclusive community process to create this award winning plan ignored .
As a tax payer I’m out of money!!! This Government seems to think tax payers have an endless supply of funds to throw away on research, planning and re-researching re-planning. Going in circles gets you no where. We have a plan and now its time to proceed!
The plan was approved. It is unfair to terminate it. It’s goes against our values as a community to break such a contract that the community put so much time and effort in. And won an award! Don’t be shady. Stay the path.
This is the most backward move that I’ve heard, actually can’t really believe its been presented as any kind of option. We are suppose to be striving for a greener solution to many of our climate issues. Our property allowes you to walk to virtually every service that you could need, Dr. Dentist, Drug Stores […]
Too much time money and effort has been put into this local area plan by both the public and municipal employees to see in one motion it be dropped. This plan makes total sense for the growing community of north Cowichan and the new hospital district. Thank you
Why is every motion put forward by these councilors intended to limit future affordable housing for an obviously growing community that is already bursting at the seams? You are standing in the way of progress with no regard for anything but your agenda… sounds like Agenda 21 to me. We are aware…..
We oppose the new OCP because it defeat the purpose for affordable homes for Seniors, first time home buyers and out frown families. There is shortage of rental homes in the valley, zero % vacancy rate. Valley is going through accommodation crisis as well as buildable lots.
Duncan, Nov 30, 2021
This will set a presentation for developers. Buy the land and then change the building code. No one will invest in our municipality

Why do you expect people to get involved in long term projects when “Council” changes its mind after the fact?
Mill Bay, Dec 01, 2021
Housing is a issue , there needs to be more informed people controlling what needs to be addressed.
